All stages of the design process can beoffered from first concepts, visualisation, design development, cad modelling, prototyping, technical development to the hand over to tool maker / manufacturer.
3D computer solid and surface modelling tools are used to build virtual on screen prototypes and rapid prototype parts to give the handson touchy feely response that is essential to any successful development program.
CASE STUDY
Client: Ilan Samson Inventor
Project: Valve system for the Tommee Tippee Explora beaker
Working with the inventors rudimentary sketches and verbal descriptions the parts where developed into computer generated virtual models. The assembly could then be assessed and modifications/refinements made. The computer model data was then used to produce rapid prototype parts using the Stereolithography process and vacuum casting. The physical parts where extensively tested in various scenarios and soft tooling commissioned to further test parts in final production materials, in this case silicon and polypropylene for the valve component.
The development of these working prototypes and pre production parts enabled the inventor to demonstrate the unique nature of the invention and secure lucrative licensing deals with international companies.
Quote from the client: “Working with Mark Hackwood made communicating easy and all complex detail where precisely understood, and very rapidly executed.” Ilan Samson - Inventor entrepreneur www.ilansamson.com

Client: C-Scope
Project: Cable avoidance equipment
Detection of hazardous underground cables can literally be a life or death situation on construction sites. The development of C-Scope’s latest cable avoidance tool required a ruggedized design capable of being used by different operators in hazardous work environments. Developed in conjunction with the in house electronic engineers the project was managed from first concepts to the issuing of 3D data to the injection mould tool maker.
“Of all the Product Designers we have worked over many years Hackwood Design is our preferred design partner”
