PROGRAMME OF WORK

To establish a cost break down, time plan and program a project would be divided into stages of work with each stage concluding in a client presentation and clear agreement of the direction to proceed.

Design development is an organic process and therefore the stages are not rigid and may vary.

The example below is an outline of what might be included in a design and development programme:-

STAGE 0  Briefing and agreement - Meeting to accept / define the brief. A budget cost and draft programme of work would then be issued.

STAGE 1  Concept design - Brain storming and hand drawn sketch concepts would be produced addressing criteria e.g aesthetics, mechanics, ergonomics, manufacturing, branding, marketing and green issues.

STAGE 2  Design development - Hand sketching and computer modelling tools would be used to define all design details visual and mechanical . The computer model would be used to accurately communicate the design for marketing evaluation.

STAGE 3  Technical development - Specification of all internal component details would be added and the exact component and assembly details defined. Development models would be produced throughout this stage to prove fit and function of the various component parts.

STAGE 4  Technical drawings - Detailed technical drawings would be produced for accurate communication of the design intent.

STAGE 5  Prototype model - Models would be used at different stages to prove the design visually and functionally.
